Should you put fruit in your green smoothies?

There is a debate about whether you should limit your fruit intake to avoid taking in too much sugar.  When I started experimenting with improving my health I did give up sugar and fruit and drank green smoothies without fruit while I was detoxing for a few weeks.  I also drank green smoothie with no fruit while I was pregnant as I was drawn to them a bit more.  However most of the time I do drink my green smoothie with fruit as they are just much nicer. 

I don’t believe that you should cut out fruit from your diet as I think fruit is one of the healthiest foods created for us to enjoy.  We are drawn to fruit so much as it’s our natural food.  I think it’s the best source of calories and nutrients.  Sometimes fruit can cause us digestive problems but I think it’s the foods we combine the fruit with that give us the problems, and those foods should be cut out, not the fruit. 

Saying that I do think there is a place for a green smoothie without fruit.  A green smoothie is a great place to stuff as many greens in as possible as it’s still easier to drink your greens than eat them sometimes.  If you enjoy just eating your fruit in it’s natural state, then by all means just have an all greens smoothie.  

Here is the fruit-less green smoothie recipe I enjoyed while I was pregnant:

1 Cup of water

1 Avocado

1 Stick of Celery

1 2 inch chunk of Cucumber

1 large handful of spinach
